Stripe formation at the ferromagnetic transition

چکیده
We consider a two-dimensional Ising model with nearest neighbor ferromagnetic and long-range antiferromagnetic interactions, the latter decaying as (distance)−p, p > 4, at large distances. If the strength J of the ferromagnetic interaction is larger than a critical value Jc, then the ground state is homogeneous. As J → J− c , it is conjectured that the ground state is periodic and striped, with stripes of constant width h = h(J), and h → ∞ as J → J− c . Here we rigorously prove that, if we normalize the energy in such a way that the energy of the homogeneous state is zero, then the ratio e0(J)/estripes(J) tends to 1 as J → J− c , with estripes(J) being the energy per site of the optimal periodic striped state and e0(J) the actual ground state energy per site of the system. Our proof comes with explicit bounds on the difference e0(J) − estripes(J) at small but finite Jc − J , and also shows that in this parameter range the ground state is striped in a certain sense: namely, if we look at a randomly chosen window, of suitable size ` (very large compared to the optimal stripe size h∗), we see a striped state with high probability. c © 2013 by the authors. Spin ladder with anisotropic ferromagnetic legs in a transverse magnetic field.
We have studied the ground-state phase diagram of a two-leg spin ladder with anisotropic ferromagnetic leg couplings under the influence of a symmetry-breaking transverse magnetic field by the exact diagonalization technique. In the case of antiferromagnetic coupling between legs we identified two phase transitions in the plane of magnetic field versus interchain coupling strength. The first co...
متن کاملNumerical Investigation on Asymmetric Bilayer System at Integer Filling Factor
Deformation of the easy-axis ferromagnetic state in asymmetric bilayer systems are investigated numerically. Using the exact diagonalization the easy-axis to easy-plane ferromagnetic transition at total filling factor 3 or 4 is investigated. At still higher filling, novel stripe state in which stripes are aligned in the vertical direction occurs. The Hartree-Fock energies of relevant ordered st...
متن کاملStripe domain structures in a thin ferromagnetic film.
We present a theory of the stripe domain structure in a thin ferromagnetic 61m with single-ion easy-axis magnetic anisotropy and long-range dipole interactions, for a wide range of temperatures and applied magnetic field. The domains exist at temperatures below the reorientational phase transition from out-of-plane to in-plane magnetization. The system of stripes can be described as a liquid cr...
متن کاملSpin-stripe phase in a frustrated zigzag spin-1/2 chain
Motifs of periodic modulations are encountered in a variety of natural systems, where at least two rival states are present. In strongly correlated electron systems, such behaviour has typically been associated with competition between short- and long-range interactions, for example, between exchange and dipole-dipole interactions in the case of ferromagnetic thin films. Here we show that spin-...
متن کاملThe Formation of the Concertina Pattern: Experiments, Analysis, and Numerical Simulations
The concertina pattern is a ubiquitous pattern observed in ferromagnetic thin-film elements. It occurs during the switching process due to the reversal of an applied homogeneous magnetic field. The pattern-forming quantity is the magnetization, which we think of as a unit-length vector field. The pattern consists of stripe-like quadrangular and triangular regions – called domains – with a unifo...
